Teen Music Lessons in Huntington

Piano & Voice Lessons for Teens Ages 13–18 in Huntington

Our Huntington music studio proudly serves families from Cold Spring Harbor, Greenlawn, Centerport, Northport, Woodbury, Syosset, and nearby Long Island communities.

Piano & Voice Lessons for Ages 13–18

Most teens take lessons here for one of three reasons. Some have something big coming up: a college audition, an audition for the school musical, a talent show, or a NYSSMA solo to prepare. Some were in the school musical, saw their friends thank Heart & Soul in the program, and want that same kind of progress. And some just love to sing or play and want lessons for themselves.

Whatever is prompting your child to ask for lessons, our piano and voice lessons for teens ages 13 to 18 are built around measurable progress: advanced technique, audition and self-tape prep, musical theater training, and NYSSMA coaching from teachers who work with this age group every week.

Imagine your teen walking into that audition or NYSSMA room feeling completely prepared. Or, if they’re coming in each week just to get better, imagine them leaving each lesson proud of what they just accomplished. One of our teen students told her teacher that lessons helped her realize just how much she was capable of.  This is precisely what lessons are all about.

The beauty of private lessons is that the teacher can tailor the material and pacing to fit your teen specifically, whether that’s a first-timer or someone gearing up for an audition.

And if you’ve been meaning to start lessons yourself, we also offer an Adult Lesson Program.

Paired with the Teacher Based on Your Child's Interests and Goals

Every teenager walks in with something different: a NYSSMA solo to prepare, stage fright to work through, or a lead role in the school musical. We match your teen with a teacher whose strengths fit your child’s goals.

From the first lesson, our teachers meet your teen where they are and guide them toward a specific result.

Lessons have clear structure and consistent accountability, but they’re never rigid or judgmental.

Parents often tell us their teen starts practicing without being asked, and takes more ownership of their own progress.

What Your Teen Will Experience in Lessons

Every teen's musical journey is different, but parents often notice the same positive changes when their teen starts lessons with us.

Piano Lessons for Teens

By the teen years, piano lessons stop being about learning to play and start being about getting genuinely good. We meet teens where they are, whether that’s a beginner starting fresh or an advanced student preparing for NYSSMA or a college audition.

Through piano lessons, teens work on:

  • Advanced technique, sight reading, and repertoire suited to their level and goals
  • NYSSMA preparation, including scales, sight reading drills, and piece selection
  • Musical expression and interpretation, not just correct notes
  • Practice strategies that fit a packed teen schedule
  • Independence, learning to problem solve a piece without needing to be told every step

Lessons are 30 or 60 minutes, paced to whatever your teen is working toward.

Voice Lessons for Teens

Teen voices are changing, and that comes with significant technical and emotional shifts to navigate: changing ranges, self-consciousness, and for many students, their first serious auditions. Our voice lessons are built around all of that.

In voice lessons, teens work on:

  • Healthy, sustainable technique
  • Breath support, tone, and expanded range
  • Audition and self-tape preparation for school ensembles, musicals, community theatre, broadway/national tour, or college programs
  • NYSSMA repertoire selection and preparation
  • Performance presence: how to walk into a room, handle nerves, and own a performance

We never push a teen’s voice past what’s healthy for their age. One parent shared that her son had a history of vocal nodules before starting with us:

“We are so thankful that she has taught Max to sing safely so that he does not reinjure his vocal chords. Cristina goes out of her way to help Max prepare for auditions.”

Why Families Choose Us for Their Teen's Music Lessons

Many families come to us after a teacher who either coddled their teen or was too impatient with them. Parents want their teen guided and encouraged.

Our teachers are serious musicians and experienced instructors who also know how to talk to teenagers. They set high expectations without condescension, and they adjust as a student's goals, mood, or life changes.

A fellow music educator who visited the studio put it this way:

"Cristina's studio space and professionalism are both among the highest caliber, providing a distraction-free and genuine learning environment for students of all ages... equipped with everything necessary for even the youngest students to have a conservatory-quality lesson."
Audrey Gordon, Music Educator

Reliable scheduling, clear expectations, and a professional space. Rescheduling is easy!

A lot of families come to us after another studio or private teacher. Here's what they tell us is different:

"He has worked with other instructors from NYC and throughout LI, and after every lesson with Cristina he always says how much she has helped him."
Karen Randazzo, Parent (8+ years)

"I have seen more growth than we have seen with other teachers in years."
Randi Cahn, Parent

Families tend to stay a long time once they find the right teacher fit here: multiple students in our review history have been with us for 5, 6, even 8+ years, often with siblings enrolled too.

This isn't a high pressure conservatory, and it isn't a drop-in hobby class either. It's a place where teens are:

  • Challenged toward specific goals
  • Given room to make mistakes without being embarrassed in front of peers
  • Trusted to take some ownership of their own progress
  • Celebrated for the work they put in, not just natural talent

Families tell us their teen sounds noticeably more confident within months, practices without being reminded, and takes ownership of their own progress.

For some students, that growth turns into measurable milestones. One mom shared how both of her daughters progressed over the years:

"My older daughter was an All State vocalist, and still pursuing vocal lessons in college. My younger daughter has been attending for 5 years and has really developed as a singer through that time."
Cynthia Grimley, Parent

Another family had been with us for NYSSMA and All County prep since their daughter was younger:

"She also had guidance and support with preparations for All County and NYSSMA... We have been with Heart and Soul for 2 years now and they have become our music family."
Linda Zoiner, Parent

Our studio director, who has over 15 years of teaching and performance experience, mentors every teacher and stays closely involved in lesson planning, so quality stays consistent no matter which teacher your teen works with.

Performance is always optional, and we treat it as rehearsal for what's ahead: auditions, ensembles, and stages beyond our studio.

We offer:

  • Student Spotlight performances
  • Holiday Playlist Showcase (virtual)
  • June Showcase (in person)

Membership Option: Weekly lessons at the same time each week.

Flexible Student Option: Lesson packages, scheduled around sports, school, and everything else competing for their time.

We also:

  • Offer in-person and virtual lessons
  • Try to schedule siblings on the same day
  • Do not require semester-long commitments

Questions Parents Often Ask

Here are a few questions parents often ask before getting started.

Q My teen has never had formal lessons. Are they behind?

Not at all. Plenty of our teen students are just starting out. We meet them at their actual level and build from there, with no judgment about a late start.

Q How long are the lessons?

Most teens do 30 or 60 minute private lessons, depending on their goals and how much material they're working through. Students preparing for auditions or NYSSMA often benefit from 60 minutes.

Q Are piano and voice lessons private or group?

Private, one-on-one, which matters more at this age since goals and comfort levels vary so much teen to teen.

Q My teen is preparing for a college audition. Can you help with that specifically?

Yes. We regularly help teens prepare self-tapes and live auditions for school ensembles, musicals, community theatre, and college music programs.

Q What if my teen is self-conscious about performing or about their voice changing?

Very common, and our teachers are experienced with it. We talk about it directly instead of ignoring it, and we adjust material and pacing so your teen isn't pushed past what feels manageable.

Q How much should my teen practice?

It depends on their goals. A student preparing for NYSSMA or an audition will need more consistent practice. A teen doing this as a hobby can progress well with lighter, steady practice. We'll help you figure out what's realistic for their schedule.

“She also had guidance and support with preparations for All County and NYSSMA… they have become our music family.”
