Piano & Voice Lessons for Ages 5–12

Choosing the best music lessons for your child isn’t just about finding a teacher with impressive credentials; it’s about choosing a place or community where your child feels safe, supported, and excited to learn. When kids feel comfortable and confident, they learn more and enjoy the process.

At Heart & Soul Music Academy, we offer music lessons for kids in Huntington that help children grow musically while building confidence. Our piano and voice lessons for ages 5–12 are taught in a warm, family-centered environment where kids feel encouraged, not pressured.

Imagine dropping your child off at a studio where you know they are cared for and supported. A place where they are challenged in the right ways and celebrated for who they are. That’s the kind of experience we work to create every day.

If your child is younger or does better in a group setting, we also offer our Music Explorers program for ages 4–6.

A Safe, Encouraging Place for Kids to Explore Music

Kids learn best when they feel safe and relaxed. Music, especially singing, can make children feel exposed. That’s why creating a welcoming environment matters just as much as teaching skills.

From the moment your child arrives, they are greeted by our kind and caring team who knows their name and get to know them. Lessons have structure, but they are never stiff or stressful.

We encourage creativity and curiosity so kids feel comfortable trying new things.

Parents often tell us their child leaves lessons smiling, proud, and excited to come back. That confidence often carries over into school and everyday life.

What Your Child Will Experience in Lessons

Every child’s music journey is different, but parents often notice the same positive changes when their child starts lessons with us.

Piano Lessons for Kids

Our piano lessons help children build musical skills while having fun. We use a play-based approach, especially for younger students, so learning feels fun instead of boring. Many parents are surprised by how much their child learns because it often feels like play to the child.

Through piano lessons, children learn to:

  • Use proper posture and hand position in an age-appropriate way
  • Read music without feeling overwhelmed
  • Build rhythm and coordination through movement and hands-on activities
  • Express themselves through dynamics and musical choices
  • Develop focus, patience, and follow-through

Lessons are interactive and tailored to each child. Our teachers take time to learn your child’s interests, personality, and learning style.

When a child becomes distracted, we don’t shut them down. Instead, we turn the lesson into a game or connect it to something they already enjoy. For example, our student, Brent, loves watching piano videos on YouTube. When he feels unsure about trying something new, his teacher uses one of his favorite videos to show how professional pianists use the skill she wants him to develop. Once he sees it in action, he is excited to try it himself.

Whether your child is new to piano or has some experience, lessons move at a pace that helps them feel confident and proud of their progress.

Voice Lessons for Kids

Singing comes naturally to many children, but young voices need gentle, age-appropriate guidance. Our voice lessons focus on healthy habits, confidence, and vocal safety.

In voice lessons, children work on:

  • Healthy singing that feels easy and comfortable
  • Breathing in simple, kid-friendly ways
  • Developing a clear, natural tone
  • Confidence and expression through song
  • Protecting their voice by avoiding strain

We never push children to yell or sing outside a safe range. All warm-ups and songs are chosen carefully to protect young voices while helping them sound better over time.

If a child feels shy or nervous, we reassure them that it’s completely normal. Teachers may sing with them, start with familiar songs, or use playful exercises to help them feel comfortable. We also make a point to highlight what the child is already doing well.

Parents often notice big changes in confidence. Children who once felt unsure about singing begin to use their voice more freely, speak up more, and take pride in their abilities.

Our goal is to help children build a healthy relationship with their voice, one that feels fun, safe, and confidence-building for years to come.

Why Families Choose Our Music Lessons for Their Kids

Many families who come to Heart & Soul Music Academy have tried other music studios or private teachers first. They often arrive feeling frustrated. Lessons felt inconsistent. Progress felt slow. Communication was unclear.

What they notice right away is that things feel different here, for both their child and for them as a parent.

Here’s what families tell us sets our kids' music lessons in Huntington apart.

At Heart & Soul, being a great musician isn’t enough. How a teacher connects with children matters just as much.

Our teachers are skilled musicians with strong teaching backgrounds, but more importantly, they are kind, patient, and caring. They know how to meet kids where they are and help them feel comfortable trying new things.

They understand that confidence often comes before big musical progress. Every child learns differently, and our teachers adjust lessons to match each child’s needs.

Clear communication with parents is also a priority. Families always know what their child is working on and how they are growing.

Behind the scenes, our teachers work closely together and receive ongoing support from our studio director, who has over 15 years of teaching and performance experience. This teamwork helps ensure consistent, high-quality lessons for every student.

Before coming to us, many parents share the same concerns. Lessons were canceled often. Schedules changed. Communication felt rushed or unclear.

Our studio is designed to take that stress off your plate.

We offer reliable scheduling, clear expectations, and a professional learning space. Lessons start on time, and communication is thoughtful and timely. Our friendly admin team is always available to help with scheduling, questions, and planning.

Parents feel confident knowing their child’s music education is handled with care, organization, and respect for their time.

Heart & Soul is not a high-pressure conservatory. It’s a place where kids feel safe, supported, and encouraged to be themselves.

We work hard to create an environment where:

  • Children feel safe making mistakes
  • Shy students are gently supported
  • Energetic students are challenged in healthy ways
  • Every child is celebrated for their effort and growth

Parents often tell us our studio feels like an extension of their family, a place they trust their child to grow, explore, and build confidence.

Families don’t just notice musical progress. They notice changes in their child’s confidence and attitude.

Parents often share that their child:

  • Feels more confident
  • Looks forward to lessons each week
  • Leaves lessons smiling and proud
  • Loves showing what they’ve learned at home
  • Learns new songs regularly
  • Sounds stronger and more comfortable singing or playing

For some students, this growth leads to exciting milestones, such as:

  • Earning lead or supporting roles in school musicals
  • Receiving high scores at NYSSMA
  • Getting solos in school chorus or performances

Most importantly, kids stick with music because they enjoy it, not because they feel pressured.

While families may not see the studio director every day, she is closely involved behind the scenes. She mentors teachers, supports lesson planning, and sets the tone for the entire studio.

This leadership helps ensure every family experience reflects Heart & Soul’s values: warmth, care, and meaningful growth.

Performance is always optional and encouraged only when a child feels ready.

We offer:

  • Student Spotlight performances
  • Holiday Playlist Showcase (virtual)
  • June Showcase (in person)

These events help children gain confidence, learn how to manage nerves, and celebrate their progress in a supportive setting.

We know family schedules can change, so we offer flexible options.

Questions Parents Often Ask

Here are a few questions parents often ask before getting started.

Q What age should kids start music lessons?

Most kids are ready for private lessons around age 5, but every child develops at their own pace. If your child is 5 and not quite ready for one-on-one lessons yet, that’s completely normal.

That’s why we created Music Explorers, our small-group class for ages 4–6. It’s a playful way to build focus, confidence, and basic music skills before moving into private lessons.

Q How long are the lessons?

For most kids ages 5–12, we recommend 30-minute private lessons. It’s long enough to make real progress, while still keeping the lesson fun and focused.

We do offer longer lesson options as students grow and want more challenge.

Q Are piano and voice lessons private or group?

Our piano and voice lessons for ages 5–12 are private (one-on-one). For younger kids who do best in a group setting, we also offer Music Explorers (ages 4–6).

Q Can my child do both piano and voice lessons?

Yes. Depending on your child’s attention span and schedule, you have a few options:

• 30 minutes of voice + 30 minutes of piano back-to-back
• 15 minutes of voice + 15 minutes of piano
• Alternate weekly (voice one week, piano the next)

We’ll help you choose the best fit based on your child and your goals.

Q What if my child is shy?

That is completely normal and expected. Our teachers are used to working with shy children, and we take a gentle, nurturing approach. We don’t expect kids to sing loudly right away or jump in with answers.

Teachers help build their confidence by getting to know them, connecting lessons to what they enjoy, pointing out strengths, and giving them time to warm up.

Q How much should my child practice?

It depends on the child and their goals. If your child has big goals (like a school musical role or NYSSMA), more practice will help them get there faster.

If they’re doing lessons more as a hobby, practice can be optional. Many kids still make great progress because lessons are consistent and well guided.
